Ceramics

The collection of porcelain spoons, masks and figurines came about as a result of searching for a new artistic expression that transforms a simple and shapeless media such as clay into an object. A simple yet essential item used daily - a spoon, becomes a part of my creative
process.
A Renaissance tradition of decorating spoon handles with the faces of apostles, knights and angels while elevating a simple object functioning as an amulet - a symbol of happiness and new beginnings, became an inspiration to create my own magical and fairytale
collection.
The faces on my spoons, masks, and figurines are the product of my imagination and do not relate to any specific people. They are the result of my studies of Medieval and Renaissance portraits and influenced by folk art. My portraits have also the influences of a puppet theater. By looking at it and discovering variety of characters, in my mask I emphasize the features of human form in a very exaggerated way to show emotions.

All spoons, masks and figurines are made of porcelain. The premises of this material still teaches humility and patience. On the other hand, they give out huge possibilities for creation. All of my work is modeled by hand. I do not use any molds. Therefore, each spoon, mask or figurine, is unrepeatable and unique.

After sculpting the facial details of my works, I leave them to dry. Then I paint them with underglazes and fire for the first time to Cone 04. After this is done, I do a final touch up with other glazes and fire it again to Cone 6.

Paintings

The world in my paintings can be summed up to experiences resulting from observation and perception of reality and phenomena in nature.
My perception of the environment is full of contrast and contradiction. I am fascinated by its variability, pulsing motion, and its continuous existence.
The themes of my work are the transformation of the circular, fragmentary elements of the urban landscape and sometimes open space. Registering the fragments of a landscape or a metamorphosis, on canvas, become a new quality of the product of my imagination. What attracts my attention may seem chaotic and disorganized. I use this as an element, which assembles my compositions. This happens due to the need to find some sort of order in chaos.

My creative process is very dynamic. It becomes a part of changes, which occur around me. It is also the process of periodically recurring tasks. Overlaying, removing, scraping and repainting various layers of paper and paint refer to the concept of construction and deconstruction. Much like decomposition, which occurs in nature. Decay is a necessary element, the next stage, and an announcement of new life.

Studying graphics had a very large impact on how I approach my paintings. The surface of a canvas usually resembles a plate etched by acid. To get this effect, I use several types of media such as paper, glue, paint. I begin by mounting papers onto canvas and then build up the surface. Through the process of abrading and scratching the surface i take away information and then respond to what remains, adding more paint, glue or paper. This continues as a cycle until the piece rest. The moment in which I decide that a painting is complete comes when I feel that what i have created is a whole and it speaks to me in a emotional manner.
